Tags

A Tag is a label you put on Cards, Records and Reminders to group them your way.

All Tags is where you curate the set: rename, recolor, merge near-duplicates, and see everything carrying a Tag.

Making Tags

Name a Tag, give it a colour if you want one, and it exists. Several can be named in one sitting, which is usually how it goes: the set arrives as a thought, not one at a time.

Making a Tag does not put it on anything. That is the next act, and it is deliberately separate, so naming the labels you want is never tangled up with deciding what wears them.

Tags ignore capitals when deciding what is the same Tag, so “vet” and “Vet” are one label rather than two that drift apart.

Putting Tags on things

Adding and removing Tags happens in one two-column view, and the columns answer two different questions.

Available is every Tag you have that is not on what you selected. Switch one on to add it.

Set is what one item already carries. Shared is the same idea for a selection of several: every Tag that is on all of them. Switch one off to take it away.

Nothing is written until you Save, so you can stage several changes and think about them together.

Split Tags

Split appears only when you have selected more than one thing, and it holds the Tags that are on some of them but not all.

It exists so a Tag on three Cards out of five is never silently reported as “not set”. Switching a split Tag on puts it on everything selected; switching it off takes it off everything.

What a Tag is on

Editing a single Tag shows the Cards it is currently set on, grouped by Collection.

This is the same job from the other side: instead of picking Tags for a Card, you are picking Cards for a Tag. Remove one here, or add more from the list below it.

Merging Tags

Merging turns several Tags into one. Everything carrying any of them carries the merged Tag afterward, and nothing carries it twice.

The merged Tag takes a name and a color you choose, so “Vet”, “vet visit” and “Vet Visits” can become one Tag called whatever you actually want to read.

The Tags you merge away are removed for good. They do not go to the Trash Bin, because restoring one would return an empty Tag rather than the things it used to be on.

Recoloring several at once

Setting a color on a selection changes only the color. Every name stays as you typed it, and everything carrying those Tags keeps carrying them.

Color is for grouping at a glance: same color, same kind of thing.
