The app's own preferences, and where Backup and Export live.
Settings holds how the app looks and behaves on this device. Nothing here touches what you have tracked, so everything in it is safe to try and change back.
What you can change
Nickname is what the Dashboard greeting calls you. Leave it empty and it greets you without a name.
Theme is Day, Night, or Follow system, which tracks whatever your device is doing.
Rail width sets how much of the left rail is showing.
Time zone decides which day a Record or a Reminder falls on, so it is worth setting if you have moved.
Visual effects matches the app to your device. Reduced stills animations, and Minimal also skips video previews.
Backup and Export
Both live at the bottom of Settings, and neither ever waits on a subscription.
Backup creates the file that moves your data to another device or keeps a copy you control. Export gives you a browsable HTML copy and CSV spreadsheets, with every original file included.
