Handbook

This is the Handbook. It opens beside the app rather than over it, so you can read it and work at the same time.

It follows the app

Moving around the app moves the Handbook with you, and opening it from a Tip lands you on the part of the article about the thing in front of you rather than at the top of a page you then have to search.

The line above the article says which surface of the app you are standing in. The Handbook’s own words are set in a different typeface from the app’s, so what you are reading and what you are using never blur together.

Walking back

History walks back out of a jump you did not ask for, and forward again if you went too far. It works the way a browser’s Back does.

Making room

The Handbook’s left border is a size control: Thin, Wide, or Auto, which gives room back as the window narrows.

On a narrow window there is no room for two columns, so the Handbook slides over the app instead of beside it, and the strip of app still showing is the way back. Dialogs step aside as far as they can, so the thing you are doing and the thing you are reading stay on screen together.

Tips are the other door

The blue Tip panels through the app are the short version, written for the surface they sit on. Each one carries a button into the article that explains the rest.

A Tip can be dismissed once you have read it, and the small marker in the dialog’s corner brings it back whenever you want it again.
